Free Tool

IBAN Checker

Free IBAN checker with BIC code lookup. Validates the MOD-97 checksum and returns the bank name and BIC/SWIFT code for all 29 European IBAN countries. No login required.

Validation

Uses the ISO 13616 MOD-97 algorithm — the same check banks run. Country-specific length rules are enforced before the checksum.

BIC Lookup

Bank name and BIC/SWIFT code are retrieved from a live registry after checksum validation. Not all banks publish a BIC — especially smaller regional banks.

Privacy

No IBANs are stored or logged. Each lookup is discarded immediately after the response.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if an IBAN is valid?

Enter the IBAN above and click "Check IBAN". The tool runs the ISO 13616 MOD-97 checksum algorithm — the same check banks use — and returns whether the IBAN is valid along with the bank name and BIC code.

What is a BIC code?

A BIC (Bank Identifier Code), also called a SWIFT code, is an 8 or 11-character code that uniquely identifies a bank. It is required for international wire transfers together with the IBAN. Example: NICA BE BB is the BIC for ING Belgium.

Which countries are supported?

All 27 EU member states plus the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other European countries — 29 in total. Country-specific IBAN lengths are enforced before the MOD-97 checksum.

Is this IBAN checker free?

Yes, completely free. No login, no registration. IBANs are never stored or logged — each lookup is discarded immediately after the response.

Automating B2B payments?

I build validation pipelines that verify IBAN, BIC, VAT number and company registration before creating a Shopify customer or triggering an ERP workflow.
